Yoga teacher tells – Eisbaden: “So far everyone has dared”

Date:

Yoga teacher Daniela Bily likes water temperatures around freezing. Because then it’s time for ice baths again. The woman from Zell (Salzburg) passes on her passion to interested parties.

When the temperature drops below freezing, it’s time to dress warmly. But not for Daniela Bily, born in Zell: she takes off her clothes! At least, except for the bikini and a warm woolen hood. “We always leave the hat on. And we don’t put our hands in cold water either. There are many nerve cells there that signal to the body that it is cold,” explains yoga and movement teacher Daniela Bily.

Overcoming your body and its instincts is what ice baths are all about. With special breathing exercises that are also used in yoga, Bily prepares herself and her fellow swimmers for the approaching cold bath.

“So far, every participant has ventured into the water,” says the yoga teacher proudly. The motivation of your students varies. Some want to prove a point to themselves, while others want to make immune-boosting ice baths part of their routine. Comparable to skier Marcel Hirscher, who stays fit by taking ice baths.

“Regularly stepping into cold water promotes blood circulation, reduces inflammation levels and releases happy hormones,” says Bily. Two minutes in ice water is enough, the woman from Zell can tell from her years of experience.

She started ice bathing through surfing! “I wanted to take with me the feeling of liveliness and tried swimming with friends in the Old Danube. “People looked really good when we put on our swimsuits there in the winter,” she laughs.
