Child Hangs Out Window – “Little One Fell Into My Arms Like A Cement Sack”

Date:

An eight-year-old girl hung out of a first-floor window of a residential building in Engerwitzdorf, Upper Austria, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. A family of four happened to pass by and the father responded promptly. In the “Krone” interview, he talks about the anxious minutes.

“Wait, a child falls out of the window” – his wife’s call caught Martin M. of Engerwitzdorf’s attention to the dramatic situation as the family of four drove home down Leitnerstrasse in their hometown. “A girl was half hanging out of the window on the first floor, her butt was already under the windowsill,” reports the father of two and a firefighter.

He stopped the car and ran to the house. “I knew it was too late to call 112. And when I was under the girl, she already fell down. If I hadn’t been there, it would have left a stomach stain,” says de Mühlviertler, adding: “I was worried if I could catch them. I’m six inches tall and luckily have a little lard. She fell into my open arms like a cement sack.”

Firefighter caught girl
The firefighter took the girl’s weight, “and she stood in front of me, nothing happened”. Since the Iranian girl did not speak German, a neighbor who saw children gymnastics on the windowsill the day before helped find the apartment. The parents who were at home had heard nothing.

Five children have already fallen out of the window
In Upper Austria, five children have already fallen out of windows this year. The most spectacular accident was that of little Zara, who fell 13 meters onto concrete in Linz and survived.
