Flames in Styria – fire in the stable: pigs and sheep died

Date:

On Wednesday morning, December 25, a farm in Lannach (Styria) caught fire. Despite the quick intervention of the emergency services, not all animals could be rescued from the stable.

The fire broke out in the garden around 8 a.m. on Christmas Day. A neighbor first noticed the flames and called the fire brigade. The St. Josef volunteer fire brigade in western Styria went out and started to extinguish the fire.

Animals died in the fire
Although the emergency services did what they could, all help came too late for some animals: “According to the current state of the investigation, two pigs and three sheep died in the fire,” the police reported. A total of ten fire brigades with 120 emergency services were deployed.

The operation was not easy: excavators had to be used to remove the roof structure of the building so that the hay bales could be removed. About a hundred of these then had to be removed in a controlled manner. The extensive firefighting efforts lasted until Wednesday evening.

High damage
The damage, which also includes several machines such as two tractors, amounts to six figures. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
