The tycoon will take office as president ten days after receiving the verdict, on January 20. The verdict is expected to be condemnatory, albeit without legal sanctions.
The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, attacked Judge Juan Merchan last Friday, accusing him of carrying out an “unlawful political attack” in connection with his appearance on January 10, when he was to hear the verdict in the alleged case bribery of former adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, known as ‘Stormy Daniels’, ten days before her inauguration.
“This unlawful political attack is nothing more than a rigged farce. Acting Judge Merchan, who is a radical party member, has just issued yet another order that is knowingly illegal, violates our Constitution and, if allowed and enforced, would be the end of the presidency as we know it know,” he stated on his account on the social network Truth Social. The judge ordered Trump to appear on January 10 to hear the verdict in that case. This is evident from a document collected by the American press in which Judge Merchan emphasizes that Trump will be convicted, although he will not face any legal sanction. The president-elect can still appeal any possible conviction, while the public prosecutor’s office has refused to comment on the facts.
Trump will be sworn in on January 20, ten days after the conviction.
Trump was convicted of a total of 34 charges in April, while he was not even confirmed as an official candidate for the White House. The judge, who postponed the hearing to determine whether he will ultimately be sentenced to prison ‘sine die’, held him responsible for falsifying documents to conceal a $130,000 payment to ‘Stormy Daniels’, who he paid so they wouldn’t talk about an alleged extramarital affair.
