After the weakening of Iranian influence in the Middle East with the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria and the heavy blows against the Shia terrorist militia Hezbollah in Lebanon, the mullahs’ regime is now flexing its military muscles. As part of a large-scale maneuver, a new tactical combat drone has now been presented. At the same time, leaders in Tehran fear a possible joint attack by the US and Israel on Iran’s nuclear sector.
Security measures surrounding Iran’s nuclear program have been greatly tightened. A five-kilometer exclusion zone has been established around the south’s only Bushehr nuclear power plant, where foreigners and migrants are not allowed to live or work, state news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday, citing the province’s governor.
The Israeli government has repeatedly threatened to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities. The background is the fear that the Islamic Republic will look for nuclear weapons because it is coming under increasing pressure. The Iranian nuclear sector has also often been the target of espionage or sabotage in the past.
The speculation is further fueled by a current report in the Israeli media. According to the Ynet news site, the US and Israel are preparing for a possible joint attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The reason is that Tehran is “dramatically close to nuclear capabilities.” Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, deputy commander of the US military’s Regional Command, and Israeli Vice Chief of Staff Amir Baram discussed a possible joint attack during Cooper’s visit to Israel last week. There was no official confirmation of this.
Large-scale maneuver lasting several days in Iran
Last year, Israel and Iran shot directly at each other several times in a dangerous escalation. Last weekend, a major multi-day maneuver began in the west of the country, which is now in its final stages, according to Iranian media reports. Air defenses were tested around the important Natanz nuclear power plant.
New kamikaze drone introduced
A new tactical combat drone was also presented. The aircraft called “Reswan” (Paradise) is a so-called kamikaze drone equipped with a camera and warhead, Tasnim news agency reported on Thursday. The drone will have a range of 20 kilometers and will serve the ground forces of the Revolutionary Guard.
In addition, the regular armed forces will receive a thousand ‘strategic drones’ jointly developed by the army and the Ministry of Defense. According to Tasnim agency, these are two modern variants of the Ababil type, equipped with missiles and reconnaissance technology.
