For a “clean slate”: report it to the police yourself before the excavator disaster

Date:

The man who was shot dead after a rampage with an excavator in the German town of Grünsfeld in Baden-Württemberg on New Year’s Eve had himself reported the crime to the police before the crime. According to the public prosecutor, this involved doge and property crimes.

The 38-year-old explained to the officers that he wanted to “clear the air”. The next day he signed a power of attorney for his wife so that she could manage his affairs.

A one hour destruction ride
During the approximately one-hour destructive ride with the excavator shortly before New Year’s Eve, the man caused extensive damage by ramming vehicles and buildings. He went on the rampage at the site of a construction company in Grünsfeld where he worked and at a car dealership in nearby Tauberbischofsheim owned by the owner of the construction company.

Use of firearms by police permitted
Even as police fired shots, the 38-year-old continued his journey. The public prosecutor suspects that he… had accepted the deadly use of firearms by the police. Three police officers were slightly injured in the incident.

Marriage breakdown and wage disputes before the act
The reason for the crazy act was probably relationship problems: after divorcing his wife a few months earlier, the 38-year-old had moved out of their shared apartment. He was the father of four children. There had also been a dispute with his former employer, who owed him wages.
