During the presentation of the sixth report of the business reflection forum, the sector advisor called for “more Europe and more industry” and asked for the involvement of civil society.
He Zedarriak business reflection forum guess Euskadi needs a rhythm annual public-private investments of 5 billion euro in the period 2025-2030 to consolidate itself as a leader in innovation and competitiveness in the European Union.
This proposal is part of an action plan presented in the sixth report, entitled “Basque Country and the European Union: a shared destiny of prosperity and competitiveness”, inspired by the Draghi and Letta reports.
The paper analyzes the challenges and opportunities that the Basque Country faces in a complex global context, and emphasizes the need for cooperation between economic and social actors to promote transformative projects.
The plan highlights a number of these key areas to strengthen Euskadi’s position. Among them: adapting your industry to the green and digital transition through investments in R&D&I, attract and retain talentand guarantee a greater presence in the strategic decisions of the European Union.
Furthermore, the proposal proposes to maximize the return on European funds and prepare the Basque society for the challenges of the future, based on appropriate education and the active participation of citizens.
Zedarriak considers it urgent and essential to implement these measures so that Euskadi maintains its economic and social leadership and contributes to the strengthening of the European project.
The forum also proposes to increase investments in R&D to reach 3% of GDP by 2030 and to improve labor and social conditions to retain talent. Another key recommendation is to design a strategy to attract European funds and transform the education system, to ensure that the Basque society is prepared for future challenges and that Euskadi remains a benchmark in innovation and competitiveness within Europe .
In statements to the media following the presentation of the report, the Minister of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability said: Mikel Jauregihas defended that “in these times of uncertainty, in difficult and transformative times”, it is “more necessary than ever for civil society to get involved” to “jointly” create a “more effective and inclusive” industrial policy.
Moreover, he assured that the Basque government shares the diagnosis that Zedarriak has made about the situation that Euskadi and Europe are experiencing, as well as the debate “that he wants to create with the recommendations he proposes.” ‘From that point of view we agree we need more Europe and more industryhe explained.
Zedarriak is a forum or platform that brings together relevant actors from the business, economic, social and academic fields with the aim of promoting strategic proposals for the development and competitiveness of the Basque Country.
