Ready-made meals are generally very unhealthy: a convenient snack almost killed a woman and her son in Germany. A father had added a special ingredient to a frozen pizza: plant poison. The mother was even in danger of dying after eating it.
If you’re in a hurry, a ready-made meal from the freezer is a practical option. However, such a meal almost turned fatal for a 55-year-old and her 25-year-old son in early December, because the pizza was laced with poison. The two had to be taken to hospital with nausea.
Investigation confirmed poisoning
While Anke H.’s life was in danger at first, her son was still ill. The police were called to the scene: After chemical-toxicological examination, it turned out that the two victims had consumed plant poison.
Investigators eventually suspected the 56-year-old father of adding the poison to the pizza as a special ingredient. After an arrest warrant, they wanted to arrest the Bavarian – Manfred H. had already fled abroad.
Captured in France after a brief escape
However, his freedom did not last long. Shortly before Christmas, French police tracked him down and arrested him in the south of the country. He was extradited to Germany about a week ago and is now in custody, ‘Bild’ reports. He is suspected of attempted murder.
H.’s motive is still completely unclear. The police are conducting further investigations to determine the exact background.
