65 cases solved – School burglaries: gang of perpetrators caught

From the end of November 2024, there was an increase in the number of burglaries at kindergartens and schools in Upper Austria. The “Krone” reported this week about a case in Riedau secondary school. After the first arrests, accomplices continued unabashedly with their prey, and now the handcuffs clicked on the gang.

Already on December 27, 2024, the theft group LKA Upper Austria tracked down a 32-year-old Czech citizen and caught him red-handed after he broke into a primary school and a business in the Urfahr-Raum district. The suspect admitted to committing a total of ten burglaries in schools and businesses, some of which together with his partner, a 39-year-old Czech citizen. The 32-year-old is currently in custody at Garsten Prison.

Despite the said arrest, a large number of unsolved crimes still remained in the Upper Austria region and investigators were able to identify further burglaries in educational institutions from the end of December 2024. After accumulating clues to a possible crime vehicle, a corresponding vehicle was found in front of the primary school in Naarn by a field patrol of the Perg police on January 8 at 12:25 p.m.

The staff also noticed that the lights were on at the primary school, so they ordered the vehicle to be checked.
A 19-year-old Bulgarian citizen was found next to the vehicle. When they examined the vehicle, officers found apparent burglary tools and belongings belonging to others. That’s why the 19-year-old was arrested.

Two 19-year-old perpetrators
The first responders from the Perg police requested available district patrols and civilian patrols from the LKA Upper Austria with the aim of finding and arresting two 19-year-olds from Wels in the area on January 8 at 1:25 am. of the school. Investigations revealed that there were further accomplices, and after reporting by the LKA Upper Austria, the Wels Public Prosecution Service made three arrests for the accomplices.

On January 14, detectives from the LKA Upper Austria, with the support of district patrols, were able to arrest a 22-year-old from the Wels-Land district, a 20-year-old from the Grieskirchen district and an 18-year-old. -old from Wels. During house searches, burglary tools, criminal clothing and stolen property were found and seized.

Further investigations are underway
The six suspects were transferred to Wels prison after the completion of the initial investigation. The 19-year-old Bulgarian national arrested in Narrn has since been released.

By arresting the perpetrators, a series of at least 65 burglaries at educational institutions in Upper Austria were solved. The defendants’ goal was to obtain cash or salable electronics through the burglaries. The investigation by the LKA Upper Austria is currently ongoing.
