Fire in California – First residents return to their homes

Date:

After the fires in California, the first residents can return to their homes. But it will be at least a week before larger evacuation zones are cleared, Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said.

The electricity and water supply in the fire areas would still have to be restored and the rubble would have to be removed. In addition, the search for possible fatalities continues. After the forest fires that destroy ground vegetation, even more dangers loom. As reported, a house on a slope was hit and destroyed by a landslide. It had previously endured the Palisades Fire itself. The house then collapsed under the pressure of rubble and earth. The fire extinguishing water would have softened the ground.

Mudslides warning
Mudslides can cause serious damage, especially after rainfall, said Mark Pestrella of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. The dangerous high winds in Southern California have now abated, but another major fire broke out at a power plant in Central California.

The Monterrey County Sheriff ordered the evacuation of several areas near the facility in the town of Moss Landing. The health authority advised residents to stay indoors and keep fires and doors closed. The power plant is a battery storage facility, the largest of its kind in the world. It is said there is no connection to the fires that have been raging in and around Los Angeles for more than a week.

The Eaton fire was more than half contained Thursday, while the Palisades fire was only 22 percent contained. 27 people were killed. More than 12,000 homes were destroyed or damaged.
