Dramatic use – trapped between rocks: photos show emergency

Date:

Once again, there was a dramatic rescue operation in the Tyrolean Mountains – this time on the High Mouth (2662 metres). A German trio didn’t happen again and back between rocks in the high snow. Photos testify to their emergency situation. The alpinists had to be recovered by helicopter.

The three-member group from Germany – Tourers aged 28, 31 and 32 – were literally trapped between rocks in the snow. Those saw no other way out than to make an emergency call.

Incident while rappelling over rocks
What happened? Equipped with touring skis and splitboards, the Germans had broken out on Saturday from Leutasch (Innsbruck-Land District) to the western summit of the Hohen mouth. “Upon departure, the group then had to rappel over several rock passages,” police described.

The disaster finally took its course at an altitude of 2040 meters. “After the abseiling, the rope could no longer be pulled. This had to be left behind. Without a rope, the group was unable to act on another rock passage,” the researchers continued.

Trio recovered with helicopter
The German trio finally made an emergency call. The crew of the Libelle Police Helicopter was able to quickly discover the alpinists and recover Leutasch with the support of the mountain rescue.

When the Germans were back on safe ground, they could walk back to the starting point – a parking lot in Leutasch. All three got away with the horror, unharmed.
