Wrong driver’s alarm on Friday evening on the A13 Brenner autobahn in Tyrol: a 75-year-old Pole turned his car in front of the toll booth Schönberg and simply drove back in the direction of Innsbruck. The wrong-way driver was stopped by a brave driver. The elder gentleman’s excuse was curious.
The 75-year-old Pole was driving his car on the A13 towards Italy around 7:15 pm when he noticed just in front of the toll booth in Schönberg that he actually wanted to drive to St. Anton am Arlberg. Rather than exit the autobahn at the first opportunity, he reversed his vehicle at the main toll gate and drove back in the opposite direction of traffic.
“The wrong-way driver could be prevented by another driver from continuing his journey in the area of the Schoenberg Gallery,” said the police. The 75-year-old finally had a curious excuse for the officials: “He thought that turning on the highway like his hometown in Canada was allowed.”

An alcohol test performed on the driver was negative. Despite the excuse, the Pole awaits a penalty. He has been reported to the competent authority.
