Bird flu spread further than assumed

Date:

At the beginning of the year, a person who was infected with the bird flu virus H5N1 in the US for the first time died. The CDC Health Authority continues to assess the risk of the general population so low. However, according to a current analysis, the virus is more widespread than previously assumed – even among people!

In the course of blood tests on veterinarians in 46 American states and in Canada it turned out that H5N1 had unnoticed itself among people. However, a transfer from people to people has not yet been proven. Of the 150 veterinarians who participated in the study, 25 said they had come into contact with infected or possibly infected dairy cows.

Bird flu firing bodies found in veterinarians
The fact that three veterinarians had bird flu speech bodies were particularly worried, but emphasized that they had not felt neither symptoms or had contact with infected cows. One of them stated that he was dealing with poultry.

Moreover, the affected test subjects came from states in which no eruptions of bird flu had previously been registered. “We don’t know the size of this outbreak in the US”, based on these results, Seema Lakdawala, a virologist at Emory University, had to concentrate in an interview with the “New York Times”.

The youngest outbreak in poultry and milk companies
Bird flu is currently common with wild birds around the world, and countless wild mammals also infect. The virus recently led to outbreaks in poultry and milk companies in the US. How the veterinarians are infected with the pathogen is still unclear. According to studies, H5N1 is transmitted through the raw milk by affected cows – mainly through milking machines and equipment.

New variant discovered in cows
According to media reports, a new H5N1 version was recently discovered in dairy cows. Virologists are alerted worldwide, because the new mutation has a better ability to multiply in mammals. A senior scientist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security emphasized the news channel CNN that it was essential to control farmers “so that we can better recognize outbreaks and protect people”.
