Pope Franciscus suffered two episodes of acute respiratory failure on Monday, on the age of ten in eighth day in the Gemelli hospital in Rome, but “he has always remained clear,” said the holy chair.

“Today, the Holy Father has presented two episodes of acute respiratory failure caused by an important accumulation of endobronchial mucus,” reads the daily explanation.

These episodes have caused a new “bronchospasm” crisis. That is why two bronchoscopies have been practiced and the “abundant secretions” have been sucked up.

Francisco has had to resume “not invasive” mechanical ventilation. The pope, according to the Vatican, has remained “always clear, oriented and employee”.

The 88 -year -old Pontiff has been included in the Gemelli hospital in Rome since last 14 February due to bronchitis with polymicrobial infection to which a bilateral pneumonia is summarized.

The prognosis remains “reserved”, meaning that doctors do not clarify the possible evolution of their clinical status.
