Jets Ukraine donated – NATO partner now protects Slovakian airspace

Date:

A few months after the transfer of its own S-300 air defense system, Slovakia is now also supporting the Ukrainian armed forces with its fighter jets. The Russian-made MiG-29 aircraft will soon be handed over to the attacked country. But now another country has to ensure security in Slovakian airspace.

The neighboring Czech Republic has agreed to this. “I see no problem there, the government will certainly approve it,” Prime Minister Petr Fiala said in a televised debate with his Slovakian counterpart Eduard Heger on Sunday. Slovakia had previously asked its NATO allies to protect its airspace.

Slovakia ordered several F-16 fighter jets from the United States in 2018. The first of these planes could arrive later this year. However, full completion should not be completed until 2024 – and not as planned in the coming year.
