To arrest? – Animal welfare officer skipped fraud case

Date:

The Austrian Animal Welfare Association is said to have been defrauded with 658,000 euros. The accused ex-president says he is ill. He was neither in court nor at home. The judge has adjourned the trial.

Ironically, the ex-president and his son are said to have cheated the Austrian Animal Welfare Association: the prosecutor’s office alleges serious commercial fraud. Damage amount: 658,000 euros. The 74-year-old, in particular, is said to have used the club’s cash in the period between 2011 and 2018 – legally speaking, he would have used club money improperly. The indictment alleges overpayments, dissolved savings accounts and private use of club cars.

Suspect was “on the road” during telephone conversation with judge
On Wednesday, the father and son had to answer to judge Gabriele Glatz in the regional court of Salzburg. But the process collapsed. For an hour, the judge tried to bring the 74-year-old under police escort to trial. But even the guest officers were unable to locate the accused at home.

In a phone call to the judge, the 75-year-old said he was on his way and on sick leave. But “not enough,” Glatz emphasizes in view of marketability reports. He declined to say exactly where he was. His lawyer had previously submitted a doctor’s note more than a week old: “He is nervously unable to negotiate.” There’s an arrest in the room. The judge suspended.
