As if out of nowhere, a St. Johanner Mountain Farmer loses her father and husband on 7 March 2025. The future has been uncertain since then. The “Kroon” wants to help.
“Sepp and I had something very special,” says Birgit Hetegger with tears in his eyes. A tragic accident tore her husband from her life on March 7 on March 7. The sideline maker wanted to make the tractor at the idyllic court for the fit of spring. Nobody can explain exactly why St. John’s vehicle fell and crashed the steep slope. He probably lost the hold on an ice sheet and the accident followed his course.
The brave woman describes the “crown” of the events of the day of fate: “A neighbor saw that the Sepp destroyed with the tractor and called me. I wanted to do something, turned it back and was home again. I saw him there. My son Stefan was already with him, he was still a bit inhaled.”
The woman resuscitated her husband herself
The rescue was already alerted, the helicopter was on the way. Birgit Hetegger resuscitated her husband. “Everything went so fast, the fire brigade, the salvation, the emergency doctor – everyone was there in no time.” But every help came too late. Sepp still collapsed with his serious injuries on the slope of the Holz Lehenshof – his wife and four sons in the immediate vicinity. “We all know how dangerous it is with us. I have always lit a candle and I asked God that nothing happens. And now that.”
The family has already had to take many lines of fate. In 2012, Sepp fell off the roof, two vertebrae broke and escaped death. The eldest son Stefan almost lost his hand in an accident. In 2024, a Mure tore a deep psychological wound in the family of the respected farmer. The steering wheel and the living and the dining room destroyed. The rooms were not habitable for months. Moreover, four suction cows from the family died in the storm. “At that time I still thought: thanks to the Lord God that He did not get a human life. We have now had the storm in our bones.”
Great solidarity in the city, but help is necessary
Then March 7, 2025. “Suddenly he was no longer with us. He sacrificed himself for us, wanted to heal after everything we have experienced. He deserves it. And now?”
They were 32 years together, 25 married, the ‘silver’ would have celebrated the couple this year. The oldest sons are 26 and 20 years old. “Everyone tries to tackle it in their own way.” The youngest sons, Lorenz (7) and Michael (10), often cry and need their father. Sepp was a full campist. The rest of the time he devoted the fourth generation to agriculture.
How does Birgit Hettegger do that now? “I am only in survival mode. For the children, life has to go somehow. I don’t know how to do it in the long term.”
They definitely want to get the farm. How – is uncertain. Hundreds of funeral guests said goodbye to the funeral. They said to the widow: “Your Sepp was today the prospective man in heaven.”
Despite great solidarity from the village, the family urgently needs help. The “Kroon” wants to participate with a fundraising – and trusts the help of his readers. “Help Crown -readers” has set up a donation account. Every euro goes to the family from St. Johann.
