Confusion about E -Mail – ID Austria: Users must go back to the office

Date:

The electronic identity ID Austria again causes resentment. Many users received the request to expand their registration by e-mail, but for fear of fraud, some ignored the news. The result: blocked accounts and renewed paths.

In Salzburg and the surrounding area, for example, there were recently countless complaints about the system. As theKleine Zeitung ”reported, many citizens had to go back to position because their ID Austria was forbidden. The reason for this was a request to extend the registration by e -mail.

User confronted with unexpected consequences
In times of frequent attempts to be fraud by SMS of E -mail, many users were apparently suspicious and ignored the news – with unexpected consequences.

According to Franz Schefbaumer, head of the urban residents and the registration agency, an increasing number of new registrations has been observed for months, probably an indication of an accumulation of problems: “We have noticed for months that more registrations have been made than last year,” he said ORF.

Criticism of complicated treatment
Not only the newest locks cause frustration, but also the general operation of the system. Schefbaumer criticizes that the activation of the ID Austria is cumbersome: “Registration is easy. But to activate the citizen, two smartphones or a laptop needs”. That is an obstacle for many.

Users -friendliness also leaves something to be desired. Critics have been reporting for a long time and long describe the system as “small user -friendly and bureaucratic”. This is also confirmed in the user reviews of the ID Austria app: with more than 8000 reviews, she only received 1.6 out of 5 stars in the App Store.

Future: a new “super app”
Despite the many complaints, the number of registrations is growing rapidly. In Salzburg alone, around 12,000 people registered for the ID Austria last year – a four -fold compared to 2023.

But the ID Austria could soon be history. A new, EU-wide app must be introduced in 2026. It is said that it bundles many functions and makes a uniform digital identity possible for the whole of Europe.
