With Hungary and Slovakia, two of our neighboring countries are currently fighting outbreaks of the very contemplative mouth and claw disease. The Austrian army has been warned since Tuesday and has already been used in help. Now the government also responds quickly with a bundle of regulations that should prevent the introduction.
The oral disease is a highly contagious animal disease that can cause significant economic damage in farm animals such as cattle, sheep, pigs and goats. In Hungary and Slovakia, farmers, politics and also the red and white Red Army are plagued by a help. The alarm bells also called for farmers throughout Austria and in the government circles of Vienna.
Tires follow the request
In comparison with the “Kroon”, the ÖVP -State of the Austria in the state of Stephan Pernkopf therefore called for “hard measures on the border, such as an import stop of living animals and fresh meat from the adjacent countries that relate to Austria” as well as extensive protective and limited zones and affected border controls so that the animal illness is not spread. And see: the federal government lit the turbo with the aim of preventing an introduction.
Under the leadership of the Spö State Secretary Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, an extensive package of measures of three urgent regulations and an additional customer were taken. The
1. Maul and Klausesuche-Control Regulation and the corresponding announcement
In order to implement the protection and monitoring measures that are provided for according to the legislation of the Union, regulations for the regulations for checking the mouth and mouth diseases are issued. It defines the framework conditions for such a limited zones in Austria. These limited zones in particular influence farmers with certain animal species and contain veterinary measures such as increased hygienic rules, operational controls and restrictions on animal transports.
Important: there are no limitations for people – staying in these areas is harmless, even for pets. In any case, care must be provided on hygiene and compliance with organic security measures. Animals can be brought in and out of these zones under defined editions. The specific geographical determination of the areas involved is carried out by a separate customer and is continuously adapted to the current epidemic.
2. Import ban on certain animals and products from Hungary and Slovakia
To prevent the MKS virus from being introduced from the neighboring countries involved, animal transport and the introduction of certain animal products in Austria are prohibited.
The prohibition includes:
• Living animals of sensitive species (eg cattle, pigs, sheep, goats)
• Fresh meat and raw milk
• Strength and nonsense
• Hunting trophies, wild meat and game in the ceiling
This measure serves the precautionary security of animal health and is implemented in close coordination with the economy.
3. Regulation to support the police and customs for checks close to the border
To control the prohibitions, another regulation will be issued, so that the police and customs can be used for targeted checks in the area close to the border. The measure takes place in close coordination with the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). These are not intramural border controls, but mobile, risk -based measures to prevent the illegal distribution of animals or products.
Daily coordination at federal and state level
These measures are implemented as part of the indirect federal administration with a close involvement of the federal states. In addition, continuous voices with the Ministry of the Interior, Defense and Agricultural, as well as the Chambers (Veterinary Association, Chamber of Agriculture, Chamber of Commerce) and the industries involved, take place. The umbrella coordination is carried out together with the state crisis and disaster protection management (SKKM) in the BMI and the Crisis Security Office in the Federal Chancellery.
The Ministry now appeals to all owners of animals, veterinarians, hunters and transport companies to meet the highest hygienic standards and to find out the applicable regulations. “Only through common, certain action can the smoother and claw disease effectively be inserted in Austria,” says the ministry.
