Hanspeter Treichl Dick painted in his calendar on 26 June. “We will certainly celebrate,” laughs the civil engineer and Asfinag team leader for the large construction site on the Tauern Autobahn (A10). Because: on this day in June the million project is finally completed, all tunnels are again accessible in two lanes. “We are exactly on schedule,” Treichl emphasizes.
The renovation of the five highway tunnels between Golling and throwing costs more than 250 million euros. The work goes in the final phase after almost two years. The new LED lighting has already been installed, the tunnel walls look lightning. These are covered with a plastic coating for longer cleanliness. Or and Heyler Tunnel will receive a clear road in the coming weeks. In the future there will be red asphalt in the yard tunnels. According to experts, this brings more clarity, such as the clear concrete. “In this way we can save up to 30 percent energy,” Treichl is certainly.
In the future, the new tubes will also be equipped with better input lighting, the latest ventilation and new overhead ads. And: as the tunnels in the direction of Salzburg – as is known, they have already been renovated and navigable – the tubes to the south are also fully checked on video. “You can’t move in the escape tunnels without being seen,” says project manager Georg Scheriau. In addition, microphones are mounted in the entire tunnel area. These respond to squeaky, voices, plate damage and much more. Together with the cameras, they recognize irregularities and forward them to the traffic salarm center in St. Michael.
Currently, a maximum of 250 employees per day work in the tunnels – in each weather. Scheriau: “You earn your money hard.”
