On Saturday, 23 border crossings from Austria were closed for Slovakia. The reason for this is the outbreak of the mouth and mouth disease in the neighboring country. 21 border crossings in Burgenland and two in LoWower Austria are hit by the closure.
The transitions were determined in close coordination with the authorities in the affected federal states of LOWER Austria and Burgenland, the agricultural rooms and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The state police departments are responsible for securing and control of the border crossings. “In contrast to border controls during open transitions, closed border transitions represent a less personnel -intensive measure and are executed in various strengths and intensity,” says the ministry. No further details about the measures on the borders are announced.
Border controls since last week
Since the end of last week, the police have supported the health authorities as part of the existing checks on the Slovak and the Hungarian border. The measures include maintaining vehicles, checking documents and checking the vehicles.

The Bundesher disinfecting vehicles denies vehicles to the Slovak-Hungarian border that Rajka crossed.
The mouth and mouth disease is highly contagious. It is harmless for people, but they can transfer the virus to animals if, for example, it is liable for clothing. Symptoms in infected animals include bladder formation in the mouth area, on the udder and on the claws, fever and pain.
