Last year so many people died in the mountains of Austria as the past ten years. More than 300 Alpintote was counted in 2024. Mountain expert Peter Paal has the reason for this and also the most common cause of death.
Last year 309 people no longer came back from the mountains, in 2023 there were almost 40 alpintote less. The number of accidents in the Alpine Room also increased considerably in the previous year: 9761 accidents were registered, which was almost 200 accidents more than 2023, since the Board of Trustees announced for Alpine Security.
More people on the road in Bergen
“Alpinsport continues to bloom, and unfortunately we see this in the number of accidents,” Peter Paal, president of the board of directors of Alpine Security. That is why the boys in particular “should be sensitized for the Alpine dangers, so that they don’t accidentally crash”.
The most common cause of death was the cardiovascular disorder
For the elderly it is important to be active in the mountains only “after healthy research and stable health”, otherwise the risk of cardiovascular failure appealed, Paal appealed. Two -thirds of the Alpine victims were older than 51 years. The most common cause of death was a cardiovascular disorder, but at least one fifth of people has an accident due to a crash.
More than half of the dead (170 people) died in mountain sports in the summer. Almost every fifth (68 people) died in the winter sports.
More than 100 dead in Tyrol
Just like in previous years, most fatalities came from Austria (58 percent), followed by Germany (28 percent). The federal state comparison in Austria again showed Tyrol on the sad tip of the Alpine Arts and Onoonfallen. 104 people suffered fatally in Tyrols.
