North Tyrol Aloaled – Forest Fire in Vinschgau: 60 hectares in flames

On Thursday afternoon a large forest fire broke out above Prad on the Silenter Joch in the South Tyrolean Vinschgau. 50 to 60 hectares of forest were on fire – a huge cloud of smoke was visible for miles. The control centers in Trento and Noord -Tirol were warned because of the smoke development.

The area was difficult to access, there were hardly any ways, the country said. About 300 firefighters were deployed, four fire -sensitive helicopters – including three from Heli Austria – supported them from the air.

Fire threatened broadcast institution
According to earlier information, a larger residential area was not in danger. However, a courtyard in Stilfs had to be evacuated, even if the fire was still far away. According to those responsible, the purchasing of extinguishing water was a special challenge, which must be raised from far away. In addition, the fire threatened the broadcaster of the race, the South Tyrolean Broadcasting Institution. If this is damaged, the network of television, radio and mobile phones can fail.

According to the state of South Tyrol, the Situation Center in the population protection Agency has been set up and in contact with the emergency services on site. The control centers in Trento and Noord -Tirol were informed, because the wind through the winds can also extend the development of the smoke to their areas.

It was not until the beginning of March that the municipalities also took place in the Vinschgau. A large contingent fire brigades was used for days. 59 of the 90 inhabitants of a hamlet had to be flown with helicopters. Eleven people were injured.
