A woman in the US is accused of exchanging her foster child for a monkey. The 70-year-old Brenda Ruth D. from the US state of Missouri was taken into custody after the authorities had received more than 200 calls.
“At least two witnesses have reported that the child was continued and that a monkey was brought to Missouri on the way back,” explains the public prosecutor of the Mike Wood judicial district in various American media. However, it was not clear whether they actually exchanged the young people for a monkey. “We will have to investigate whether it is at the level of human trafficking,” says Wood.
Notes about abuse
The authorities had received anonymous indications that Brenda Ruth D. had mentally and physically abused young people. According to a submitted lawsuit, she would have defeated her foster child with various objects and have removed his clothing as a form of punishment. Brenda Ruth D. was in charge of more than 200 children within 20 years, says Wood.
Public prosecutor: could have been a barter
At the beginning of the year, the young person was then sent to a friend of the foster mother in the US state of Texas. Like D., he was interested in exotic animals. According to judicial files, the young people lived there in a house “under unhygienic living conditions and without reasonable supervision”. Wood thinks it could have been a kind of exchange: the foster child stayed with the friend, in exchange the 70-year-old got a monkey.
More foster children increase accusations
In the meantime, different people who indicate that D. foster children must also be. They say they had experienced similar abuse as young people. “This has the potential to be a scandalous case of human trafficking,” says Woods. He pushes: “Or at least it is a very discouraging and worrying case of abuse and neglect.”
