When a cash machine suddenly flies in the air at night, the ruthlessness of a group of perpetrators from the Netherlands is clear: 30 attacks in 18 months – but now the police and banks are back. With AI, fog canons and a clear message: “We get the perpetrators!”
Imagine walking with your dog at night – or with your crying newborn, to calm down. And suddenly something flies in the air. And that’s it. “Fortunately we have not had any dead so far,” says Andreas Holzer, director of the Federal Criminal Police Office. But he knows how the “well -organized and perfidious criminal organization” of Holland Ticks. Regardless of any losses.
This year already countless attacks
In the past year and a half, 30 attacks on ATMs have been committed in Austria. This year alone it was 17. “We have to do the perpetrators that we will get them,” says the Interior Minister Gerhard Karner. The corresponding shoulder of this was signed on Friday – a security pact between the police and the banking sector.
The measures in the fight against the (professionally trained) splinter groups:
- The use of the color systems of bank notes will be extended immediately.
- Soko ATM, who was already installed in March, organizes more supervision.
- Exponed or in particular endangered branches are installed: as soon as there are suspicious actions in the building, the alarm will be increased. And that through a new system …
- … and ki (artificial intelligence). Monitoring car images are analyzed by this system, so that fog is activated in an emergency and the security authorities are automatically warned.
Michael Höllerer, director -general and division chairman of the WKö for bank and insurance, Klar says: “This is now about an active informal exchange and not about secret nesting.”
Perpetrator got a ball in the ass
One thing is clear: last Sunday a coup in Vienna-Leopoldstadt can be prevented for the first time. The police were prepared. One of the perpetrators got a ball in the ass at the escape. There is already a house search in his apartment. Holzer: “We know this group of perpetrators and we understand.”
