“Irresponsible” debate about measures against mouth and mouth disease

Date:

The FPö has accused the hesitation of the federal government of dealing with mouth and mouth disease (MKS). After the first case in Hungary it took almost a month before “ÖVP and Spö finally act”. Christine Leeb of the University of Natural Heritage (Boku) also appealed to strict measures.

The Ministry of Health recently relaxed import restrictions against oral disease. That is “irresponsible”, the FPö now criticized. The neighboring countries of Austria, Hungary and Slovakia, have largely contained the virus, but they are still in a “critical phase” because of the longer incubation period. It is happiness that no case has been registered in this country.

On Wednesday, the FPö called for epidemic carpets to protect the companies against an infection and a plan for an emergency. “We are located in the middle of Europe and many animals are transported, for slaughtering or acting,” said Christine Leeb, professor at the Institute for Lion Sciences.

More than six million animals killed in Great -Britain
She experienced the outbreak of animal diseases in 2021 in Great Britain. “It was dramatic, the plague was all past a short time. In a few weeks it was 40 to 50 new infected companies every day.” At that time, more than six million animals were killed, partially sheep for reasons for animal welfare because the meadows were grazed and the pregnant animals were alone in the mud.

The virus is extremely contagious. In Britain, courtyards are also struck along highways where vans with infected animals only passed by, the scientist warned. “You should be very strict in the beginning and experience something like that for a month or two. I understand that it is about weighing trade interests, but you cannot imagine that people and animals suffer.”

Crisis team: Surveillance by May 20
In Burgenland, around 5,000 tests have been carried out on MKS in the past two weeks, all of which were negative. Cows, pigs and sheep are tested, among other things. The surveillance program took place until May 20. In the extensive limited zone in the Centrale and Noordburgenland, not only the animals are clinically controlled, but also organic security measures.
