A terrible accident happened on the southern motorway near Pinggau (Styria) on Sunday morning: a motorcyclist fell and was run over by a car. The driver of the car fled and the motorcyclist was seriously injured.
At around 10:40 am, the 55-year-old motorcyclist from the district of Bruck an der Leitha (Lower Austria) entered the A2 near Pinggau. The woman fell on the rain-soaked acceleration lane and slipped in the first lane. There she was run over by a car.
Stopped for a while
The driver of the car briefly stopped at the hard shoulder, but then drove on in the direction of Vienna. The 55-year-old was seriously injured and after first aid the rescue helicopter C16 took her to Oberwart hospital. Firefighters from Pinggau removed the damaged motorcycle and the highway was completely closed for 40 minutes.
