Shock in New York on Saturday morning (local time): a boat that was moored on the Hudson River exploded. An employee (59) was killed.
The man was currently welding the loading bar, when the explosion took place around 10.30 am (local time), said the American coast guard on social media.
First aid workers who responded to an emergency call found a 59-year-old man unconscious in the river, who was still declared dead at the scene of the accident, said the New York police. Two other employees were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Methan as a trigger?
The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, the police said. It is believed that the explosion was caused by methane, which the boat arose because of a sweat error, but did not activate a fire.
The loading ship was managed by the Environmental Protection Authority and transported rough water to the sewage treatment plant.
