“Historical Law” – West Bank: Israel wants to build new settlements

Date:

Israel has announced the construction of 22 Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank. New settlements are planned, but outdoor posts must also be legalized that have already been built without the government’s approval. The correct extremist Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich welcomed the decision to X.

“We have made a historical decision for the development of settlements: 22 new communities in Judea and Samaria,” Smotrich wrote on X. He used the Israeli name for the West Bank.

700,000 Jewish settlers under 2.7 million Palestinians
On the West Bank and East Jerusalem, around 700,000 Jewish settlers under 2.7 million Palestinians conquered. Most states regard the settlements of Israel as illegal in the conquered areas. The government in Jerusalem denies this and trusts historical and biblical ties with the country.

The settlements vary from small outdoor posts on hills to fully developed communities with apartment buildings, shopping centers, factories and public parks.

According to a map published by the Likud party by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the planned 22 settlements are distributed over the West Bank. The party said the project was cited by Smotrich and Minister of Defense Israel Katz and approved by the Security Cabinet.

“Strategic step”
Minister of Defense Israel Katz said that the decision of the settlement “represents our historical law on the state of Israel and represents a devastating answer to Palestinian terrorism.” It is “a strategic step that prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger Israel”.

Finance Minister Smotrich celebrated the decision for further settlements on X. It is not about a strange country, but about “the inheritance of our ancestors,” he wrote. This is “a decision that is only taken once in a generation”.

Smotrich wrote that this was “a big day for scheme and an important day for the state of Israel”. It was possible to “bring about a profound strategic change”. The settlement is “the protective wall of the state of Israel”.

Smotrich plays a central role in the Israeli government about questions about settlement policy. Israel has accelerated the construction of settlements in recent years.

The West Bank has been occupied by Israel since the six -day war of Israel, but a part has been under the Palestinian government since 1994. Last year, the highest UN court in a legal advice had condemned the Israeli settlement policy. According to the court, the settlement of the occupied Palestinian territories violates international law. Israel rejected the report.
