Show new satellite images: Noord -Korea has apparently positioned mysterious, balloon -like objects around the heavily damaged warship, which has been fascinated since the failed water was sunk in a shipyard in Chongjin.
According to military experts, the objects, the exact function of which is unclear, can stabilize the ship or protect against drone recordings, the American broadcaster CNN now reported. The damaged torpedo hunter is the youngest – and so far the last warship in the country and was a prestige project in the maritime upgrade of Noord -Korea.
Kim Jong Un talks about “Criminal action”
The Noord -Korean ruler Kim Jong Un, who was present in the failed water, called the incident a “criminal act” according to the state media and called for a rapid repair of the ship – finally at the plenary session of the reigning employee party at the end of June. Four people, including the chief engineer of the shipyard, have now been arrested.
According to South Korean parliament members and military experts Yu Yong Weon, the balloon -like objects can prevent the ship from continuing – so as not to reset it.
Experts warn of consequences
Former American maritime captain Carl Schuster sees two conceivable functions of the balloons compared to CNN: they can illuminate the hemisherian navigation or make enemy drone education difficult. But: “If you try to educate the ship on such resources, you risk serious structural damage,” warned Nick Childs, maritime security expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
Because the location of the ship – half in the water, half ashore – is particularly crucial: “This is the worst scenario,” said Arms Expert Decker Eveleth. If you simply lift the part under water, the keel – the backbone of the ship – can bend or break. In this case the ship would be irreparably destroyed.
Possible dismantling in individual parts
According to experts, it is likely that Noord -Korea will have to dismantle the ship and restore them in individual parts to erase the shipyard again. Despite state reports on only small damage – a repair may take considerably longer than the official ten days mentioned. Estimates assume for up to six months, depending on the degree of damage and water absorption.
Balloons instead of modern rescue technology?
Satellite images of Maxar Technologies show that a dozen white balloon -like objects have been placed around the ship since 23 May. According to experts, their shape and the recognizable back fins give small aerostat – balloons filled with gas with zeppelines.
However, the question is whether you bring the desired effect. According to American experts, modern rescue techniques, such as special swimming bodies, seem to be not available according to American experts.
