Row Chit is often hidden in the tall grass – it can quickly become difficult and life -threatening situations for you. But for sunrise, the helpers go to work to bring the young animals to safety.
With great caution, the small series are lifted out of the grass in the early morning hours and brought to safety. The mission starts before sunrise, because the mowing machines will continue soon. Until that time it is important to detect and have saved all young animals.
This year 200 Fawns have already been stored
This is done with the help of drones – with thermal image cameras, systematically flown over the fields. In this way more than 200 Fawns could be saved in Tyrol this year.
Almost invisible in the tall grass
In May and June the series are still very small. To protect them against predators, the mother animals hide the series in the tall grass. They almost invisibly their spotted skins and their instinctive behavior to dive flat on the floor – also for farmers and mowers.
“In May and June we are often used all day – depending on how the weather is like and when the farmers mow,” explains Marina Ulrich, a wild biologist at the Tyrolean Jägerverband, “Last year we searched around 6000 hectares with drones in Tyrol and save almost 900 Fawn.”
