Not enough thrust – Puzzle experts: why crashed Dreamliner?

Date:

The investigation after the plane tragedy in India with hundreds of fatalities is in full swing. One of the two flights has already been found – this information hopes to provide information about the cause of the accident. Experts already speculate: can an extremely rare fault of the disaster?

In the accident that 241 people on board cost their lives (a passenger survived), at least eight people died on the spot. Four of them were medical students who lived in one of the buildings that crashed the plane, the BBC broadcaster reported. The others were relatives of other students who had lived in the dormitory.

Still starting normal, but planes have not risen
Experts are already enigmatic how the tragedy could come about. Aviation journalist Andreas Spaeth said n-tv.de that it was an “extremely unusual” incident. He analyzed the visual material and came to the conclusion that the start was still normal. “But the plane does not get higher and then flies to unbearable seconds at a consistent low height – apparently 190 meters were measured – straight on over the train and went into an seemingly ordered descent, which then ends in the tragic fireball,” said Spaeth.

Fuel could have been polluted
It was “clear” that the machine missed the thrust. The engines would probably have failed during or shortly after lifting. This could be due to infection of the fuel, for example due to damage. Human failure or sabotage are also possible causes.

Related lever for chassis?
The former pilot Ehsan Khalid emphasized on “Times of India” that it was extremely unlikely that both engines will fail at the same time. “I don’t understand why the chassis was still being expanded,” Khalid also explained. These are actually inserted immediately after lifting. It is possible that the pilot or co-pilot operated the wrong lever. The lever in front of the chassis is very close to those for the landing flaps – on a video you can see that they are driven in such a shocked flaps after the start.

The failure of both engines is very rare. The most famous incident is probably the incident in 2009 when a pilot left an Airbus A320 in the Hudson River with a sliding flight on the Hudson River.

Airport “Notorious” for bird population
Another cause of the accident can be a bird strike. If a bird is sucked in, a motor can fail, just like in that accident with 179 deaths in South Korea. According to experts, Ahmedabad Airport, where the accident machine started, is “notorious for its bird population”. The state of Gujarat, in which Ahmedabad is located, reported 462 bird attacks within five years, most of which took place on Ahmedabad Airport.

The captain of the accident machine was an experienced pilot, as the BBC broadcaster reported. Sumeet Sabharwal had carried out this profession for 30 years and was the oldest professional member with more than 8,200 flying hours. The 60-year-old was only a few months before his pension he had to spend more time in his retirement with his 82-year-old father, who used to be an official of Indian civil aviation.

Shortly before the crash, the pilot had made an emergency call. In it Sabharwal aroused in the voice: “Mayday … no thrust, losing strength, undoing to lift.” (“Mayday … no boost, loss of performance, can’t rise.”
