Tragic hiking accident on Wednesday in Tyrol! An 86-year-old woman fell about 150 meters into a mountain stream on the way back from the Marienbergalm to Obsteig (Imst district) in front of her one-year-old brother. Unfortunately, all the help for the Austrian came too late.
On Wednesday, the brothers and sisters (86 and 85 years old) from Obsteig/Arztkasten hiked along the marked hiking trail No. 813 (“Alpsteig”) to the Marienbergalm (1,640 m). “The two arrived there around 12 noon,” police said.
Fell in a mountain stream
According to the current state of the investigation, the 86-year-old, who was slightly behind her brother, may have fallen into a somewhat steeper section of the path on the way back in the “Ploder” area (approx. 1300 m) for unknown reasons. “Then she fell over steep forest terrain about 150 meters into the Marienbergbach stream below,” the director said. The woman suffered fatal injuries in the accident.
