Where is Tomislav Jovanovic’s killer? The Salzburg Police Department has been dealing with this matter since August 25, 2007. At that time, the body of Tomislav Jovanovic was found in a wooded area in Hof near Salzburg. The Salzburg car dealer was literally executed with a gunshot to the back of the head. All previous investigations have been in vain. Now the criminals are reopening the case.
The body of the man, who had been separated for years, was accidentally found in a wooded area 20 meters below the Wolfgangsee trunk road near Hof by a young couple from Carinthia. The body was surrounded by garbage and covered in twigs. Cause of death was a shot to the back of the head.
The murder weapon was a 7.65 caliber handgun. From August 17, the track of the Bosnian has been lost. His niece subsequently filed a missing persons report.
Manhunt call in TV show
Now the Salzburg police are reopening the case. On July 21 at 8:15 pm the case will be presented to television viewers in Austria, Germany and Switzerland as part of the “Fahndung Österreich” program on Servus TV. “We hope for clues that lead to new research approaches. Everything can be important,” explains Chief Inspector Hans Wolfgruber. His colleagues regularly looked at the so-called ‘cold cases’ and checked for new approaches. A reward of 5,000 euros will be offered for relevant information.
Speculation about links to organized crime
Wild speculations were received at the Salzburg State Criminal Investigation Department after the corpse appeared. It was suspected, among other things, that the car dealer may have been in contact with the mafia or narcotic environment. “But there is no evidence in a specific direction and about a possible motive,” one researcher said at the time.
Even today, Wolfgruber cannot rule out the possibility that the perpetrator is a person from the circle of organized crime. “We follow up on every tip,” says the chief inspector, who will present the case to television viewers next week.
“I think it’s important that no victim is forgotten,” says lawyer Stefan Rieder, who has been representing the survivors of the murder victim for years. Through the television program, Rieder hopes not only for new investigative methods, but also for new criminalistic methods.
