The Austrian extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner is dead. The 56-year-old died on Thursday in Porto Sant’elpidio on the Adriatic coast near a Paraglide accident.
As Italian media unanimously report, Baumgartner traveled with a paraglimer when he suddenly lost control of the plane – probably due to sudden discomfort.
Fallen in the hotel pool
He then fell in the swimming pool of a hotel complex for a woman who was injured. According to the first information, her condition is not serious, reports “Rainews”. According to provisional information, Baumgartner was already dead when the impact took place.
World famous with stratosphere jump
The extreme athlete became internationally known for its spectacular jumps. In 2012 he wrote the history when he rose to the stratosphere with a helium balloon and jumped back to the earth from there. He was not afraid of death, as he explained at the time in the “Krone” interview: “You don’t die so quickly.”
