A suspected robber was arrested Friday evening in Vienna-Ottakring after a robbery because a taxi driver had refused him the escape route. As the state police directorate announced, the 34-year-old allegedly attacked a cell phone shop together with an accomplice.
The shop owner (51) suffered minor injuries after being sprayed in the face with pepper spray. While the accomplice managed to escape with some of the loot – several cell phones – the 34-year-old was sitting in a taxi on Neulerchenfelder Straße and wanted to be taken away.
But the taxi driver refused. Police officers who have now arrived on the scene have arrested the 34-year-old. An immediate search for the other suspect turned up nothing. The Vienna State Police has taken over the investigation.
