The Saudi prosecutor’s office on Friday announced the arrest of a Saudi citizen who helped Israeli-American journalist Gil Tamary enter the holy city of Mecca, which is strictly forbidden to non-Muslims, during the recent celebration of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage. of Islam.

Tamary, who exonerated the Saudi citizen, a driver who did not know his identity when he took him to Mecca, is also under investigation by the Saudi prosecutor’s office, which a statement said will take “appropriate measures”. of the Arab Kingdom’s security services collected by the official SPA news agency.

The Saudi prosecutor’s office reported that the reporter “crossed a route dedicated only to Muslims, in explicit violation of the laws prohibiting entry to Mecca for non-Muslims” in view of a report for Channel 13 of Israeli television. .

In his article, the journalist tells that he managed to reach Mount Arafat, the place where, according to Islam, the angel Gabriel revealed himself to the prophet Mohammed, where he aroused much suspicion among the clerics of the place, for which he finally decided to leave the city to leave.

Non-Muslims are completely prohibited from entering Mecca according to the doctrine of a verse in the Quran forbidding polytheists from approaching the city’s Great Mosque. They are also largely barred from Islam’s second largest city, Medina, although restrictions there have been relaxed in recent years.
