After he “unburdened” a businessman of exactly 700,000 euros, the handcuffs clicked for a Lower Austrian. The 33-year-old staged a fairly cinematic coup. The scenes: a (fictional) villa in Spain, the eternal city of Rome as a crime scene, a house search in Baden near Vienna and one in Guntramsdorf (Lower Austria). And as a victim a rich businessman from Germany who was scammed.
But first and foremost: in March, the 59-year-old was offered the villa for sale via an internet platform. The perpetrator acted as an intermediary and demanded a commission of 700,000 euros if the deal went through. He wanted to convert the money into cryptocurrency. The two men met in Rome, the victim was actually carrying a wallet.
The Lower Austrian may have succeeded in spying on the “customer” passwords and criminally tapping the amount of money. Then the crook went into hiding, but the villa was never sold – this crime is a so-called rip-deal.
Search is underway for possible accomplices
Moments later, the German reported the crime in his home country. Thanks to the cooperation of the police forces in all three countries involved, the Lower Austrian could now be arrested in Rome. At the same time, the above-mentioned searches were carried out, with data material being secured. The search for possible accomplices is still ongoing.
“Pink Panther” went online in Milan
Let’s stay in Italy, where another spectacular attack took place: in the fashion metropolis, three more members of the infamous jewelry robbers were caught – the gang was very active in Austria, eleven robberies between Vienna and Innsbruck are mentioned here.
