The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine informed this Monday about the departure, at 06:15 GMT (8:15 am, in Euskal Herria), of a first ship with a cargo of grain from the commercial port of Odessa, on the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian portal Ukriform.
According to that medium, which cites ministerial sources, the cargo ship sails under the flag of Sierra Leone and on the way to the port of Tripoliin Lebanon, with 26,000 tons of maize Ukrainian
Earlier, a Turkish government spokesman had announced the expected departure of a first shipment this morning, following the agreement reached separately between Russia and Ukraine at the end of July to allow the release of Ukrainian grain.
Turkey is acting as verifier of that agreement, in which that country acted as guardian together with the United Nations, and also directs the control center set up to oversee the operations.
The purpose of the agreement is to re-enable Ukrainian grain exports and alleviate the global food crisis worsened since the beginning of the war in Ukraine last February.
