The wave of solidarity for doctor Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, who died on Friday, does not stop. After thousands gathered in Austria on Monday to commemorate her in silence, the German entertainers Joko and Klaas dedicated the start of their show “Who steals the show from me” on Tuesday – and that at prime time.
In a one-minute video, the two Germans sent out a clear message against hatred and violence on the internet – demonstrating so clearly that Kellermayr’s tragic fate also affects people beyond Austria’s borders.
“She Feels Left Alone – And It Is”
“Lisa was often a guest on our programs, knew all our shows and went on vacation to visit our productions. Vacation from your job as a doctor in Austria”, the two introduced their message in white letters on a black background. Due to her involvement in the Covid pandemic, Kellermayr became “the target of radical corona deniers and ‘lateral thinkers’,” they relentlessly exposed the explosive subject.
They also repeat the criticism of the Austrian authorities: Kellermayr’s call for help was answered with “lack of understanding and passivity”. And further: “She feels left alone — and it is.”
“Thank you for your effort”
The doctor was often a guest on the programs of Joko and Klaas, according to the message from the two entertainers, which was also published on Instagram. During the corona pandemic, she campaigned “for the need for vaccination” and was therefore the target of radical corona deniers and so-called lateral thinkers. “Thank you for your loyalty. Thank you for your applause. Thank you for your efforts”, they posthumously dedicate their program to “Lisa”.
Month-long battle against death threats
For months, the 36-year-old was threatened with murder, among other things, before her suicide she felt helpless exposed to the hatred of vaccination opponents and corona deniers. At the start of the corona pandemic, Kellermayr worked at the general practitioner, where he cared for Covid 19 patients at home.
The threats against her started when the doctor criticized a demonstration in front of the clinic in Wels on Twitter in November 2021 and the police of Upper Austria spoke of a “false report”. At the end of June, the GP closed her practice in Seewalchen am Attersee (Vöcklabruck district).
According to her own statements, the doctor had spent about 100,000 euros on protective measures. The headquarters of the state police in Upper Austria and the Upper Austrian Medical Association had publicly told her to hold back.
