A YouTube video of the musician Rudy Pfann is currently not being greeted with much joy in traditional circles. The Mühlviertler and his band rap with the wrong traditional headdress on the song “Bierbraua”.
The video clip was only online for a few hours when Martina Pühringer, the state chairwoman of the gold cap women in Upper Austria, was informed about it on Monday. “I was given a link to the YouTube video and asked me to watch it,” explains the former member of the state parliament in the “Krone” interview.
She got to see the Mühlviertler musician Rudy Pfann and his band “Sumpftruppe” (Toni Pichler, Wolfgang Pammer and Johannes Grüner) performing their latest dialect rap “Bierbraua”. The quartet wears golden hats – but backwards, with the horn facing forward or to the side.
“You shouldn’t wear a golden hood like that”
“You should not wear such golden caps,” emphasizes the state president. The horn should always rise backwards, a long dress and a handbag are appropriate: “Golden hats are not meant for men either. These gentlemen do not seem to have wrestled with tradition.” Musically and lyrically, however, Pühringer thinks the rap is good.
“Would be better if they stand out with music”
Anneliese Ratzenböck, the wife of Alt-LH Josef Ratzenböck, who was state president from 1976 to 2000, has little fun with the video. “A golden hood is not a sacred object like a monstrance, but you shouldn’t belittle it either,” says the 88-year-old. She also assumes that the musicians want to cause a stir with their action: “But it would be better if they would attract attention with their music.”
A little provocation
Rudy Pfann also admits that he wanted to be a little provocative. “But with a wink – the idea has stuck with me for decades. And in this case, the gold caps also stand for the beer in the text – almost as a metaphor for the liquid gold.”
