An as yet unknown gunman shot a highly protected peregrine falcon in the wing in Lower Austria. It is thanks to two hunters that the flightless bird survived.
There is great horror at the discovery of two fighters at Gneixendorf airfield near Krems. The two hunters discovered a peregrine falcon lying on the ground. The wounded right wing of the heavily protected bird of prey resembled a gunshot wound. This bad suspicion should be confirmed by a vet a little later. “He was probably shot at with a small caliber rifle,” police said.
Difficult investigations
There is currently no trace of the cowardly gunman and the investigations are difficult. The impact may make the bird unable to fly, but it is not possible to determine exactly where it was shot. The falcon is currently recovering in a wildlife station. The perpetrator faces multiple charges.
