About a year ago, the roebuck “Peterl” from Thiersee in the Tyrolean lowlands made headlines, but now it seems to be in hiding. The hunters from the region did not shoot him.
Review: After the allegedly malicious attack by the animal in the Glemmbachklamm on three hikers, in which a German was injured, a major rescue operation took place. The women reported that “Peterl” attacked them on a hiking trail for no reason. However, a video proved otherwise, revealing the trio: the human-raised animal was attacked by the vacationers and resisted alone. The ladies even tried to convert their lies into face value – but in vain!
“He must have smelled the roast”
In any case, “Peterl” disappeared then. “We tried several times to catch the animal that had lost its mother,” says Michael Lamprecht, district manager hunter in Kufstein. They even had a good spot in a game reserve for “Peterl”. The capture attempts failed, however, “Peterl” didn’t even come close to the – well-intentioned – fall. All attempts to lure failed. “He must have smelled the roast,” Lamprecht laughs.
In addition, media star “Peterl” started with a game of hide and seek. “I kept getting information that he had been seen,” says Lamprecht, who lives in Thiersee. “When I checked in person several times, he wasn’t there.” The last credible sighting was in winter. The hunter must have seen him feeding the game.
Peterl was not shot
Otherwise you don’t know anything about his stay. “The animal has aged and changed in appearance,” says Lamprecht. It is very possible that it is therefore not recognized. “At least we didn’t shoot him,” emphasizes the district’s hunting master. “We never wanted that.”
