Train station collapse – ORF presenter back to life after cardiac arrest

Date:

Radio Styrian moderator Dietmar Koch has come back to life after a respiratory and cardiac arrest. The 60-year-old collapsed lifeless on April 2 on the way to Graz at the Vienna Meidling train station. A week-long hospital stay and rehabilitation followed.

“Otherwise I’ll never go to this platform, because the train leaves somewhere else. But it was just the right thing for the journey back to my life,” the ORF presenter now said, thanking his lifeguards.

A little over four months ago, after a long break, Koch was on his way to the ORF transmitting center in Graz for the first time. As always, he wanted to travel this route by train, but this time he suddenly collapsed at the train station in Vienna-Meidling. Two police officers who happened to be there responded promptly. They started with chest compressions and shocked the 60-year-old with a lay defibrillator. Paramedics from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service then took over the care.

No lasting consequences
Koch first met two of them after a week in hospital and rehabilitation. “It is very nice to see how Mr. Koch is getting better step by step,” emergency doctor Bernhard said during the personal meeting. The moderator survived the cardiac arrest with no lasting consequences.
