In the coming year, a lot of criticism, especially from the German side, will hold on to the lorry block handling at the Bavarian-Austrian border near Kufstein. The dosing calendar for the first half of 2023 was presented by the black-and-green state government as part of its traditional Assumption Day gathering.
According to this data, freight traffic in Kufstein-Nord is measured for a total of 24 days between January and June 2023. In addition, block handling days can be arranged at short notice due to weather and natural phenomena, accidents or urgently needed construction work.
“Proven measure already 4.5 years”
“For four and a half years, the truck block handling on the A12 Inntal Autobahn near Kufstein has proven itself on traffic-critical days such as long weekends or holidays. Due to the persistently high throughput burden for people, nature and infrastructure, we will also be introducing dosing days in the coming year,” explains Governor Günther Platter.
This measure would prevent road congestion and ensure traffic and security of supply. “We will continue to adhere to this emergency measure so that our country does not come to a complete standstill on busy days. The fact that this measure is absolutely necessary is also underlined by the current figures: the number of trucks has increased again compared to 2019,” continues Platter.
Plus compared to the time before Corona
A monthly comparison in July showed that there were already seven percent more cars on the Brenner route in July 2022 than in July 2019, i.e. before the corona pandemic. In the first seven months, transit trucks also increased by one percent compared to 2019, which corresponds to a total of about 15,000 trucks.
“The dosage is and remains an emergency aid. In the long term, a European traffic problem also needs a cross-border, European solution,” says LHStv. Ingrid Felipe (Greens). The common goal should be a shift from road to rail, she said.
