Concerns about a lack of gas supplies from Russia are pushing gas prices in Europe ever higher. European natural gas futures for September delivery rose to a record high on the Dutch energy exchange in Amsterdam on Friday.
The increase is around nine percent, namely 340 euros per megawatt hour. The futures contract for delivery in October rose 3.7 percent on Friday to EUR 327.13 per megawatt hour.
Russian exporter Gazprom had announced it would suspend gas supplies through the Nord Stream 1 Baltic Sea pipeline for three days from August 31 due to maintenance work. This fueled fears that gas flow from Russia, which had already been severely curtailed, could come to a complete standstill.
