The Vienna Health Association (Wigev) filed a complaint on Thursday against a subcontractor at the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA). It is suspected of corruption. “Using the factsheet submitted, we are reporting an alleged attempt to influence a bidder in the context of a tender procedure by a subcontractor of a business partner,” said Bernhard Pisecky, head of Wigev’s legal department.
In the related communication, he further said: “We have information that this subcontractor acted against our interests and that the Vienna Health Association could have suffered damage as a result. We expect the WKStA to launch an investigation against this subcontractor.”
“Very small industry”
Further details and which sector it concerns have not been disclosed for the time being. Wigev spokeswoman Nina Brenner-Küng only said so much when asked by APA: “The industry in question is a very small industry.” tolerated – that also applies to companies that work for Wigev.
“credible evidence”
That is why, since September 2020, the Vienna Health Association has been operating an anonymous whistleblower platform through which to report white-collar crime affecting the company. According to the broadcast, information about the current case also came in through the company’s secure compliance channels. “We have looked at the evidence and find it very credible. That is why we handed it over to the WKStA,” said Brenner-Küng.
The ad arrived there on Thursday, an APA spokesperson said. He was therefore unable to comment on the content. The ad must first be assigned to a prosecutor, who will then investigate it.
No tolerance for corruption
Norbert Schnurrer, spokesman for city councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ), emphasized to the APA that there is no tolerance for corruption. In this case, the response was quick and the whistleblower platform proved its worth: “It worked well.”
