The measure is aimed at frequent passengers to try to mitigate the impact of inflation
The discounts and free subscriptions approved by the government for all public transport in the country will be applied from Thursday, September 1, with the aim of mitigating the impact of inflation on citizens.
In particular, regular travelers of the conventional Cercanías and Media Distancia services travel for free, while frequent users of the Avant and some AVE services receive a 50% discount, plus the minimum 30% discount in the subscriptions and multi-travel tickets for each city , which the communities have been able to increase to 50%.
In the first case, until December 31, customers will have to buy the new subscription that Renfe has specially created to apply this measure. A deposit of 10 euros will be charged for Cercanías and 20 euros for Media Distancia, which will be returned as long as a minimum of 16 trips have been made.
In the Cercanías, the subscription is valid for the entire network that is part of each core, so traveling more than 16 times in these four months is completely free. In the case of the medium distance, the subscription has a starting point and a destination set by the traveler, so it will be necessary to travel 16 times between these two stations to be free, always one person.
In this way, the tip is limited to frequent travelers who work or study and not to citizens who sporadically take the train for other reasons, who continue to pay the current fare or the deposit of 20 euros if it is cheaper to take the subscription even for less than 16 trips.
As for the Avant, which are Medium Distance but High Speed, there is a 50% discount on the current subscriptions already on the market. A new subscription has also been created for certain AVE of less than 100 minutes, mainly in Castilla y León, with a 50% discount.
Only the AVE routes between Madrid-Palencia, Madrid-Zamora, León Valladolid, Burgos-Madrid, León-Palencia, Burgos-Valladolid, Ourense-Zamora, Palencia-Valladolid, Huesca-Zaragoza, León-Segovia, Segovia-Zamora, Palencia – Segovia and Medina del Campo-Zamora have this discount, only in Castilla y León, Aragon and Madrid.
The government also approved a 30% general discount on monthly subscriptions (including the metro, buses, trains and other means of transport) and multi-trip tickets for any city or region, with the option to extend it up to 50%. of each community independently.
Finally, a 50% discount is also applied to long-distance buses, but only to multi-trip tickets for more than two journeys, so normal round-trip tickets are excluded.
