Germany: ‘We are better prepared than a few months ago for the Russian gas stop’

Date:

The Scholz government is little surprised by the Russian gas stop and admits that the measures taken earlier are absorbing part of the impact

The closure for “technical” reasons and without a reopening period by Gazprom of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, which connects Russia directly to Germany via the Baltic Sea, has not surprised Berlin. The reaction of the German government was not long in coming and was reassuring. “We are noticeably better prepared than a few months ago,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

However, the Scholz Executive declined to go into detail. “We are not commenting on this matter, although in recent weeks we have already been able to verify Russia’s lack of formality and have therefore strengthened measures to achieve consistent independence from Russia’s energy imports,” the same sources explained.

Klaus Müller, chairman of the Federal Network Office and responsible for controlling the gas supply to Germany, pointed out that “in view of the Russian decision to stop the gas flow through Nord Stream 1, they become more important LNG- terminals, the relevant levels of accumulated reserves and the significant need for savings in consumption» Germany has managed to fill its gas reserves in recent months to levels exceeding 80% of capacity and is ahead of plans to reach 100% .
