She called on the islanders of Okinawa’s southernmost county to be careful. On Saturday, the typhoon with wind speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour hit the Japanese Sakishima Islands near the main island of Okinawa. Okinawa is known in Japan as a vacation paradise.
The cyclone slowly moved north of the Sakishima Islands. Early next week, it is likely to move into the East China Sea, approaching Japan’s southwestern capital Kyushu.
Cyclone could reach South Korea
He could then make landfall in neighboring South Korea on Tuesday. The local weather authority expects its arrival near the southern city of Busan and has already warned residents.
Japan has already had eight hurricanes this season. Typhoon “Meari” did not hit the mainland until mid-August and caused damage to rice fields, among other things.
